The history of La Ferme du Bourgeat

In the early 1800s,

Uncle Joseph , a farmer and cow breeder, undertook the construction of the Bourgeat farm . At the time, this remote hamlet was ideal for hosting his business and his animals. The farm was then a stable, a shelter for the cows on the lower floor but also a place of life for Uncle Joseph and his family. This rusticity from another time was characteristic of the simplicity of mountain life at that time.

Inside, the walls were lined with dark wood, exposed beams supported the upper floors and the floor, made of large slabs of stone and beaten earth, has long borne the traces of the footsteps of those who lived there.

In the barns were stored bales of straw and hay, essential for feeding the animals during the long Alpine winters.

The years and decades pass and the Bourgeat farm has always kept its rustic character and its primary function, surviving all the trials of time and the generations of my family, up until the 2000s.

My grandparents were the last guardians of this place full of history. When my grandfather ended his farming activity and retired, the farm, which had always been the heart of this hamlet, became silent.

Lulled throughout my childhood to the rhythm of the farm, I have remained very attached to this place which represents a large part of my family's history, its commitment and its passion.

In 2016 , determined to preserve and perpetuate this precious heritage, my husband and I decided to undertake its renovation.
It was an ambitious project, marked by several years of dedicated and passionate work, but it allowed us to breathe new life into this charming place. The walls were restored, the windows enlarged, the spaces redefined.
Thanks to our commitment and the love we have for this place, La Ferme du Bourgeat has been transformed into a warm and authentic chalet , ready to welcome new visitors. Since spring 2020, we are proud to share with you this place full of memories and emotions, where authenticity and comfort meet to offer you an unforgettable stay in the heart of the Alps.

When we looked for a way to illustrate the history of the Ferme du Bourgeat , we wanted to convey this symbol of longevity and authenticity.

Our research led us to Cerf.

In many traditions, this animal is a powerful symbol of respect and wisdom, but also of renewal.

It then became the allegory of our history and was sparingly integrated into the comfort of our lodgings .

From this rebirth were born three unique spaces, three lodgings each with its own character and history:

  • The Gîte "L'Étable de Florent" : on the ground floor of the gîte, this space which once housed the animals has become a true haven of peace
with modern amenities and a private sauna. Its outdoor space is discreet without taking away from the panoramic view
    on the mountains.
In homage to my grandfather who bore this first name.

  • The Gîte "La Grange de Lorella" : it is a family space offering a breathtaking view of Mont Blanc. The shared spaces of this gîte are gathered around a central point: the view! Its bedroom dedicated to children equipped with bunk beds make it the ideal place to create fantastic cabins and even more comforting memories.
It is named after our daughter, who inspired this space with her playfulness.

  • The Gîte "La Remise de Leo" : right side of the first floor of the chalet, it is a real cozy cocoon for mountain lovers. Its high ceilings and large windows accentuate this "open to the outside" effect. It is the first gîte that we completed and also the first name of our eldest son.

This is why we invite you to come and discover this unique place,
created to come together, under the benevolence of the mountains and the aura of the deer of the Ferme du Bourgeat.
